How many Sealing Options for PCR Plates are there?
How many Sealing Options for PCR Plates are there?A PCR plate covering is necessary to provide protection from contamination and evaporation, and different technologies and materials are suited to this task. The choice of seal should be based on the nature of the sample and its requirements and the work steps performed.
1. The standard of PCR plate sealing
These key factors need to be considered
1) Number of the sample
It may be necessary to open only individual wells while the other wells remain closed.
2) The sealing time
Solutions are needed for short-term covers in the range of minutes as well as for long-term storage lasting several years.
3) Temperature stability
Common application temperatures for laboratory plates range from storage at - 80 °C to incubation steps at temperatures as high as 100 °C.
4) Light transparency
Some samples need high light transmissibility and the others may need to be protected from light.
In case successive steps involve different requirements, it may be advisable to change the closure type.
2. The materials of PCR plate sealing
a) The sealing films
Films are clear, so it allow to visual observation of the sample while offering protection against accidental puncturing.
b) The sealing foils
Similar to films, the foils are made of aluminum, they are impermeable to light while at the same time allowing mechanical penetration.
c) Cap strips
d)There are 3 kinds of Cap strips, Domed caps, Flat caps and the inverted cap. Please choose the right one as you need.
e) Mats
Mats used for the sealing of plates are made from flexible materials such as, for example, TPE (thermoplastic elastomer).
In general, the higher the temperature to which the plate is subjected, the tighter the PCR plate seal must be in order to prevent evaporation of the samples. Some Samples are stored at different temperatures, for different periods of time. For short-term storage at ambient or refrigerated temperatures, or at freezer temperatures, practically all closure types are appropriate.
Geneture Medical provides one stop solution of Nucleic Acid Extraction and Analysis, and has now developed a number of commercial bead-based nucleic acid isolation kits. Our protocol requires fewer steps and reagents than other DNA extraction protocols and can be automated in 24, 96-deep well plates. We know what it takes to succeed. We first work with you to understand your specific challenges and then our experts will design, develop, manufacture, and validate complete assay solutions for your molecular diagnostic assay. Our quality system is an integral part of every step in the molecular diagnostics assay development and manufacturing process. We operate under the most rigorous requirements of ISO 13485:2016, from early-stage development to tech transfer, scale up, validation, verification, and commercial production.
